I found that candles can also be used to measure time. & the most sophisticated candle clocks presently known is by al-Jazari in the 13th century.
& al-Razi (Rhazes) first described the kerosene lamp in 9th century Baghdad. He called it the "naffatah" in his Kitab al-Asrar (Book of Secrets).
